Carnival Weekend 2015

The amazing programme for this years carnival:

Saturday 23rd May​:

10am – 4pm Craft Fayre in the Memorial Hall  

10am – 4pm  Children’s fair on the Wheatsheaf car park 

10am – 4pm Stalls on the Market Place  

10.45am – 11.15am Blessing of the Wells – St Mary’s Churchyard followed by a traditional walk around the Wells with the Reverend David Truby. 

12.00 Crowning of the Queen and attendants in St Mary’s Church  

12.00 – 1.00pm weather permitting: Picnic in the churchyard!  Come along with family, friends and neighbours and enjoy a picnic in the beautiful grounds of St Mary’s church. 

NEW for 2015 – We proudly present Wirksworth Carnival Skatepark Jam! 

Throughout the day sessions will run at the Skatepark on Fanny Shaw playing fields for Skateboarders, Scooters and BMXers.  There will be Under 16 and over 16 sessions and prizes will be awarded for “best trick” “best flow” etc. Find out more at

7.30 Wheelbarrow Race. Come along and watch as teams of two race between the pubs of Wirksworth, sinking a drink at each one without spilling a drop! Better still, why not take part! Teams can register  on the day at the Hope & Anchor. £10 donation per team (over 18’s only). Fancy dress optional. Starting outside the papershop and finishing at the Black’s Head. 1pm THE MAIN EVENT!  Come along and watch or dress up in your most colourful glad rags or fancy dress and join us in the parade. Starting at Millers Green (Assemble at 12.30) we parade through the town turning down Coldwell Street at the Red Lion and invite you to follow the fun to Wirksworth Station where the parade will finish at approximately 1.45pm. Followed by….. 

2pm – 7pm "Rock and rail @ wirksworth station" is new for 2015. Ecclesbourne valley rail have kindly donated their station to host this years celebrations following on from the parade. 
Music from the ever popular local covers band 'facsimile' as well as other local musicians organised by Liam Barkley Smith. Family entertainment including children's rides, bucking bronco and more. Finally there is food and drink with a bar serving real ales from Ashleyhay brewery.
